Show INTERVIEW: Luckinbill and Ro rtson Page 32 GC: The final straw? What was her name? RR: Ethel Wise. GC: Ethel Wise. Did she ever come back? BL: No, she never did come back. We went on through school and graduated, that was when I was a sophomore that this happened, and she was gone. She never did come back. And it's so funny, because they moved here very poor, you know, people, they had next to nothing and she used to go up home and eat with me when we were, oh my golly, when did they come here, when we were in the fifth, sixth grade, maybe the fourth grade, I don't know; I can't remember. But up to that one point we were friends and then she went to Mrs. Knight complaining, at that time Mrs. Knight was our teacher, and in later years she became the principal and then the superintendent of Grand County. She had started teaching here, I think, as a young girl. She taught Rosalie in the fourth grade, didn't she, Rosalie? RR: In the first year I came here. BL: Her name was Helen Taylor. GC: Relation to Taylor Ranch? BL: And then she taught me when I went into the seventh grade, she taught me as teacher. GC: What year did she become superintendent, do you remember? |
