" A. Not all the way; you have to cut around and head little gulches that runs in, and back and forth." R. 1687- 1688. He has observed the San Juan River during low water at many points; the mouth of Montezuma, at Bluff, Mexican Hat, Comb Wash, mouth of Moonlight Canyon and at Zahn's. R. 1688. At these points in dry seasons, the normal width would be one hundred twenty- five to one hundred fifty feet, in some places much narrower, and the depth in dry seasons would be from a few inches to possibly knee deep. He knows this of his own knowledge as he has crossed on horseback and on foot stepping from one cobble to another; crossed that way without getting in the water. R. 1689. He has crossed on foot from one cobble to another at the mouth of Comb Wash near the mouth of Chinle Creek, where there is a riffle, and as the rocks are a little larger than in some other places, he could step from one rock to another in extreme low water. It was at the mouth of Comb Wash where there was a ferry at one time that was used during high water that comes in June and July as a rule. They would only use |
