Show 704 Juan River from Bluff to a point about ten miles above McElmo Wash, following the river bottoms at times, then turning to the northeast to Mancos, Colorado and Durango; another up Recapture Wash, about five miles above Bluff, up through what is now known as Monticello, the present county seat of San Juan County, and on over to Moab. This last described road did not go up through where Blanding is now located, it ran east of Blanding. R. 1692- 1693. The old Mormom Trail [ going west from Bluff] leaves the San Juan River at the mouth of Comb Wash and doesn't tough it anymore. In taking pack outfits to the placer miners, he would go down the Mormom Trail To the mouth of Comb Wash, over Lime Ridge, then to Lime Creek and down this creek to its junction with the San Juan River, about three miles above Mexican Hat. Most of the placer operations were located along the canyon between Comb Wash and Mexican Hat and down the river below Mexican for ten or fifteen miles. R. 1693. Later he worked two or three months for an outfit, he believes the Recompense Company, in charge of a man by the name of Lasher, which was doing a little placer work near the mouth of Moonlight Creek.
