Show 700 on the San Juan River hauled a good deal of their stuff from Thompson Springs [ Utah]. He never hauled any himself. He doesn't recall the year Moab was first established; believes about 1890. He knows that the merchants at Moab received their supplies from Thompson Springs, Utah, and also from Grand Junction, Colorado, they being hauled overland. R. 1693. His experience in places mining has been limited, but he was in the San Juan Country during all the placer mining. He didn't sell any merchandise to the placer miners, but did freighting for them. However, his brother had a store at Bluff and sold lots of goods to them. R. 1684. The principal part of his freighting was hauling oil rigs, tools and supplies to the oil fields near Mexican Hat after the placer mining, which was done in the early ' 90' s, and the freight he sent in to the placer mines or knew about, was taken in by team and wagon.
