Show 630 the river, is next. The first Powell Expedition lost a boat going through there, it being smashed at Disaster Falls. R. 1520. Then comes Whirlpool Canyon, which is not so bad, but has some lively rapids in it. Below Lodore Canyon is the Uintah Basin in Utah, where comparatively good going is had for thirty miles or so, after which comes the Canyon of Desolation, some ninety- seven or one- hundred miles long and of very rapid descent; " rapids and shoal water at low water." R. 1521. After Desolation Canyon is Gray Canyon, about twenty or thirty miles long, with a few rapids in it. Next comes Gunnison Crossing, where Greenriver, Utah, is now located. R. 1521. " Q. Mr. Dellenbaugh, in that part of the trip did you encounter any other boats on the river? " A. No other boats had ever been on the river. " MR. FARNSWORTH: We move that go out. " THE SPECTAL MASTER: Strike that out. " The question is, did you encounter -- " A. No, we did not." R. 1521- 1522. The expedition was re- supplied with rations brought from Salt Lake City, Utah, to the Indian Agency at Uiutah, Utah, at the mouth of the Duchesne River. " Q.
