Show 653 They passed the mouth of the San Juan River about the middle of October, 1871, and the river was quite low. The facts as recorded in his book " A Canyon Voyage" [ Exhibit No. 14] should be accurate, as he made every endeavor to have them so. R. 1572. They stopped a short time at the mouth of the San Juan and at that time saw nothing of the river except its mouth and on the other occasion when he passed the San Juan River going down the Colorado, the San Juan and the Colorado were both big streams. On both trips, they stopped at Music Temple, about two miles below the San Juan. R. 1573. " Q. Now, calling your attention to your recitals immediately following the last date given here, of October 3, 1871, I am now directing attention to Exhibit No. 14 of Complainant's. ( Reads:) "' Twelve miles below our camp we passed a stream'- " THE SPECIAL MASTER: You are reading from what page? " MR. FARNSWORTH: Page 140, towards the bottom. ( Reads:) "' Twelve miles below our camp we passed a stream coming in on the left through a canyon about one thousand feet deep, similar to that of the Colorado. This was the San Juan, now shallow and some eight rods wide." |
