(p. 5) Water Allocation: Q. What is the allocation of water under the Colorado River compact? A. Based on a mean annual run-off of 16,000,000 acre-feet, the compact allocated 7,500,000 acre-feet to the upper basin States and 7,500,000 acre-feet to the lower basin States, with the right of the latter to increase their beneficial consumptive use of such water by 1,000,000 acre-feet per annum. Q. How much of the water allocated to the lower basin States does California get? A. California has agreed that the aggregate annual consumptive use of the river water shall not exceed 4,-400,000 acre-feet of the 7,500,000 allocated to the lower basin by article III (a) of the compact. |
