Show General Health Status Self-Perceived Health Status Compiled by Shobha Satsangi Percentage of Utahns in Excellent Health in 2002: 26.9% Self-perceived health status is a question found on The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), a collaborative project of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. states and territories. Participants in the study are asked to rate their own health status as being excellent, very good, good, fair or poor. Table 1 illustrates the self-perceived health of Utahns has only changed slightly over the past few years. In 2002, 26.9% of Utahns rated their health as excellent, compared to only 21.4% nationally. By contrast, 3.2% of Utalins rated their health as being poor, compared to 3.9% nationally (Figure 1). In 2000, 59.7% of participants in Utah felt that in the past 30 days there were not any days when they felt that their physical health had not been good, while 58.3% felt so about their mental health. In addition, 76.5% of the people interviewed felt that over the past 30 days there were no days that they felt hke their physical or mental health was keeping them from doing their usual activities. .
