Show Population Foreign-Born Residents in Utah Compiled by Ara Serjoie Foreign-Born Residents in Utah: 7.1% Utah's foreign-born residents make up only 7.1% of the state's population, but their numbers increased 170.8% (from 58,600 to 158,664) between 1990 and 2000. During the same time period, the numbers of foreign-born U.S. residents increased by only 57.4 % to only 11% of the population (Table 1). By the year 2000 every county in Utah housed some foreign-born residents, and the larger counties, such as Salt Lake, Utah, Weber, and Davis saw substantial increases in these numbers (Table 1, Figure 1). Most new residents in Utah and the U.S. are coming form Latin American countries (Table 2). The influx of foreign-born residents is likely to continue, across the nation and in the state. This poses challenges to policy makers and healthcare providers at the national, state and local levels, as they work to provide accessible healthcare to all residents, while addressing differences in culture and language.
