Show Infectious Diseases Measles (ICD-9=055, ICD-10=B05) Compiled by Nathan Harris 2001 Utah Measles Cases: 0 Measles is caused by a virus and is a very infectious disease that can be particularly serious to infants. The virus is found in nose and throat secretions of infected people. Direct contact with these secretions or exposure to the cougli or sneeze of an infected person can spread the disease. The most effective way to prevent measles is to receive the vaccine. Utah is usually below the national average childhood immunization rate. Over the last ten Table 1. Utah has seen a steady decline of reported cases and an increase in immunization rate after implementing public health programs focused on childhood immunizations (Figure 2). Table 2.
