That Friendfhip Fortune did create, Still fears a wound from Time or Fate. Our chang'd and mingled Souls are grown T o fuch acquaintance now, That if each wrould refume their own, Alas! w e know not how. W e have each other fo engroft, That each is in the Union loft. And thus w e can no Abfence know, Nor fhall w e be confin'd ; Our active Souls will daily go 1 o learn each others mind. Nay, fhould we never meet to Senfe, Our Souls would hold Intelligences In- POEMS. 5- Infpired with a Flame Divine, I fcorn to court a ftay $ For from that noble Soul of thine I ne'er can be away. But I fhall weep when thou doft grieve ; Nor can I die whilft thou doft live. 6. By my own temper I fhall guefs At thy felicity, And only like m y happinefs Becaufe it pleafeth thee. Our hearts at any time will tell, If thou, or I, be fick, or well. 7- All Honour fure I muft pretend, All that is Good or Great; She that would be Rofania s Friend, Muft be at leaft compleat. If I have any bravery, 'Tis caufe I have fo much of thee. 8. Thy Leiger Soul in me fhall lie, And all thy thoughts reveal j Then back again with mine fhall flie, And thence to m e fhall fteal.
