Show UTONIAN Nineteen TwelveSenior Chapel DaySENIOR Chapel Day, always a serious event, was this year no less solemn than usual. The long sombre procession of black-clad figures lined up and marched with slow dignity to the assembly room decorated for the occasion with flags, flowers, and palms. Behind them moved the Juniors, wearing crepe and trying to conceal their tears.The assembly room was crowded with students and friends come to pay their last respects to the departing class. Hugo did honor to himself and to his class in an eloquent speech of farewell. Dr. Talmage, the speaker of the clay, eulogized the Seniors in glowing terms and exhorted the under-classmen to follow their worthy example.After assembly, the crowd followed the grief-stricken Juniors to the site of the Central Building, where, with an impressive funeral ceremony, the departed class was solemnly interred.Later in the day the Seniors resurrected themselves to preside at an "at-home" for students and friends. They beguiled all ears with sweet music and won all hearts with ice cream, candy and Jean's home-made cake.At four o'clock everybody repaired to the matinee dance, given in the Gym by the "U"-Techs. to forget, in the intoxicating music and laughter, the seriousness and gloom; with which the day began.Central Building DayTHE fact that we needed a new central building was indelibly impressed upon us all during the recent sessfon of the legislature and, possibly because our tuneful appeal to the legislature, or perhaps in spite of it, that dignified body at length granted the request which had hitherto been made in vain.When the announcement was first made that "We'll have that new Central Building," the student body as a whole was accused of lacking enthusiasm!.
