Show UTO NIANNineteen Twelve"U" Day CelebrationTHE most successful "U" day ever enjoyed by the students was celebrated Thursday, April 20. A large number showed their loyalty by participating in the exercises of the day and also by inflicting punishment upon their seemingly inert classmates. As early as half-past nine there appeared on the campus jovial faces, smiling through tears which had fallen from a too mournful sky. The tears did not remain however, for by the time the slippery hills were climbed Sol had decided that further raining would expedite the return trip. The face of the "U" was washed so quickly and evenly that distant observers might have imagined a chamois skin had been shyly applied. But their illusions would have been dispelled had they seen the besmeared and bedraggled trousers of the hungry classmen who returned to find the plentiful lunch no less delicious because they knew it was waiting. Naturally it is the girls who must be given credit for this part of the day's program. The baseball game between the Scribblers and Skull and Bones was well attended, owing, no doubt, not to great expectancy concerning the outcome, but to the promise of free peanuts. The Scribblers got the shells. The matinee dance which followed was unequalled in joviality. An informal spirit took possession from the beginning. Had it not been for the fact that a treat was expected in the evening, all would have been loathe to go at the end of three too short hours. There was no necessity for an extensive vegetable shower at the vaudeville. Everybody came expecting to hear something good and went away satisfied. The success of this performance was, no- doubt, largely owing to the active interest of the Dean oi Women. Her appearance on the stage, while somewhat expected, was met with hearty shouts of approval.Hurrah for "U" Day!184 |
