Show U T O N I A NNineteen TwelveThe TeamCAPTAIN "TINY" HOME well deserved the recognition he received when he was placed on the All-Rocky-Mountain team. On the defense he -was a tower of strength, time and again tearing through the line and breaking up the opponents' plays. On the offense he ripped great holes in the line, and when called upon eluded his opponents and received the forward pass, which more than once resulted in a score for his team. Playing with a grim determination, Captain Home was one of the most consistent football men I have ever seen."LON" ROMNEY, All-Rocky-Mountain halfback 1910, captain-elect of the 1911 football team, easily outclassed his opponents who played this position. Fast and heady, he could successfully execute the most intricate plays. His spectacular end runs were a feature of every game. "Lon" is a natural-born athlete. He should make a great captain next fall.HENRY RICHARDSON, the third Utah man to make the All - Rocky - Mountain team, ~was one of the most versatile football men the "U" ever had. A sprinter, he could elude the end, or, hurling his powerful 180-pound frame at the opponents' line, he could always be depended upon for making good gains. It was "Heinie," who, working under the theory that a straight line is the shortest distance between two points, made Denver's line look like paper. Because of the lightness of the ends, he had to play defensive end and do double service. Considering the fact that it was his first season at kicking he proved a fairly good punter and an excellent place kicker."IKE" NIELSEN, playing his first full season, proved a great center. Since I gave my center more to do than any other center in the Conference, since "Ike" proved himself equal to the part, and since he was the best defensive man in that position, I think he should have made the All-Rocky-Mountain team.164 |
