Show UTONIANNineteen TwelveIt is greatly to the advantage of the young man or the young woman to get his or her first degree at home in order to get as widely acquainted with people from all over the State as possible and of these acquaintances to make of them as many friends as one can make. This should be done especially if the student is going to make this State his home and place of business. In business, to succeed well we want many acquaintances and friends in the place where we are doing business.By all means, therefore, both young men and young women should get their college education at home. Should they desire, after securing their first degree, to go elsewhere for a year or two, they will not then diminish their chances for success by going, because they will have already made acquaintances and friends in the state of their future business life. They may then add to their prestige and worth by taking graduate work in some great institution elsewhere. The removal of the University to its present site in 1900 distinctly marked an epoch in the history of the University, and the erection of the central building with the $300,000 provided for that purpose by the last legislature and the passage of a permanent maintenance law by the same legislature will distinctly mark another epoch in the history of the institution. The University of Utah is now in a better position than at any time heretofore to forge ahead and to advance the higher educational interests oi the State.16 |
