Thirty head of cattle, 2 horses, and2 mules were transferred, by instructions from your office,. to the IIoopa Agency, and this, together with the heavy lossea during the past two severe winters, has very mate- 1 rially reduced the number of stook belonging to this agency. Mi!&.-As before reported, we ha--e no gristmill and of course the servioe is a great loser thereby. I .trust that funds from some source will be available during the present year to supply this need. The 8%-ill for want of funds to repair it, out no lumber during the yew, hut since the 1st ofi July I have suooeoded in getting it into such shape as to enableme to out enough for our uen hop house. I ho e to soon have it in good running order. Bchwla.-Tva day sohools, one at hea$quarters and one at lower quarters, have been in operation ten mouths during the past fiscal ye=, with an average attendance of 64 scholars. Apprentices.-I have had four Indian spprentioos with the oarpenter, one in the blaoksmith shop and one in the harness shop. Court of Indian dfenaes.-None has been established at this a.genoy, and at present I see no necessity for one. The Indims as s, rule are quite orderly and well behaved, only ooeasionally one beooming intoxicated. Last November I reported to the United -States diatriot attorney two parties for selling liquor to Indians and a subpaena was iasued by the United States district oourt requiring myself and witnesses to appear before said oourt an Febn~ary27 . Owing to severe storms the case waa continued until the 4th day of Maroh, and when itwas called certain white citizens of this 'valley appeared as witnesses for the defense, and swore they would not believe any hdianunder oath. As a consequence the parties were acquitted. Xissiomry efforts.-Certain Baptist mimiauary societies appoint& Rev. J. T. Merriem and wife to this field and they have held regular church sen.ioes and Sab-bath school both at headquarters and lower quarters. But until their lands are allotted, individual homes established, and camp life broken up, very little will he accomplished toward ohristianizing these Indians. Very respeotfully, Tmo. F.
