The "se cretor" characteristic is transmitted by simple heredity.?' 62 the "secretor" character being dominant over the recessive "nonse cretor." Relatively few studies have been made on the racial distribution of this character. Such studies as have been done indicate that in Europe and in the United States about 80% of White individuals are "secretors" and 20% "nonsecretors."?' The percentage of "secretors" appears to be slightly higher in Fin land'" and markedly lower in Neqroes'" (about 61 % ). Racial Distribution of Rh and Hr Factors Recently two new inheritable factors have been demonstrated be present in human blood. These are the Rh65 and Hr,66 of which there appear to be several subtypes. The current genetic theory regarding Rh is that the varying types of reactions are determined by a series of multiple allelomorphs. A complex anti genetic and corresponding genetic structure is therefore to be expected in contrast to the simpler antigenic and genetic scheme of the MN system. Only a few racial studies have been made on these factors. In 1941, for example, the Rh antigen was found to be present in the blood of about 85 % of White individuals in the United States. A somewhat higher incidence was found by Landsteiner and Wiener'" among Negroes in New York City. The following year Landsteiner, Wiener and Matson'" studied the distribution of the Rh antigen in American Indians and it was found that among 120 full-blooded Indians examined, only one individual was Rh negative. The higher incidence of Rh factor among Negroes has been confirmed by Levine'" who, with Wonq.:" also examined the incidence of Rh among 150 Chinese living in New York; they found only one Rh negative individual. Wiener, et aL36 also found among the Chinese an exceedingly high percent of Rh Positive individuals. Similar results have been found by .Simmons, et al,"? among Australian aborgines. Two hundred and eighty-one pure-blooded Australian aborgines and four hybrids were all found to be Rh positive. Similar results were found by him among the Indonesians and other South Sea peoples, as well as among the Japanese. to .
