Show BY-LAWS Utah Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters . Law 1. Order of Business. The following order of busibusiness meetings of the Academy shall be followed as far as practicable: Opening, minutes of the last meeting, reports of officers, reports of standing committees, appointment of special committees, unfinished business, new business, reports of special committees, election of officers, election of members, program, ness at adjournment .. Law 2. Rules of Procedure in Meetinqs. Roberts' Rules of Order shall govern the conduct of business meetings of the Acad emy and the Council in the absence of other provisions in these By.-Laws or the Constitution of the Academy . . Law 3. Council Quorum. shall constitute a quorum. Five members of the Council Law -4. Election of Members. Prospective membe-rs shall be proposed in writing by two members of the Academy upon forms furnished. Prepared application forms shall be transmit ted to the General Secretary, who shall place proposals before the Council at its next regular business meeting and upon nomina tion by the Council the secretary shall propose nominees for mem bership at the next regular meeting of the Academy. Law 5. Election of Fellows. Proposals for fellows shall be made in writing by five members of the Academy to the Gen 'eral Secretary. He shall brinq before the Council at its annual meeting these proposals. Upon nomination by the Council, he shall bring before the annual business meeting of the Academy names of nominees and these shall be elected by a three-fourths affirmative vote of members present. . Law 6. Election to Honorary Membership. A candidate for honorary membership shall, be proposed in writing to the Gen eral Secretary by a petition signed by fifteen members of the Academy. The General Secretary shall present this petition to the Council at its next regular business meeting, whereat the candi date, to be nominated, must receive all save one favorable vote of members of the Council present at this meeting. The name of the nominee shall then be presented at the next annual meeting of the Academy and election shall be by nine-tenths favorable votes of members present. Law 7. Fees and Dues. Members shall pay an entrance fee of $1.00 within two months of the time of their election. Mem bers and fellows shall pay annual dues of $2.00. |
