Show 24 Utah Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters . It is realized that much of this area thus incorporated into the Basin and Range Province is transitional in nature, partaking of characteristics of the provinces on both sides. The boundary selected, however, seems to be the best possible division, since in the region to the west of the line, Basin and Range characteristics Colorado Plateau and Middle are dominant, while to the east, Rocky Mountain features, respectively, are more important. The other boundaries between the provinces, as defined by Fenneman, seem valid and in need of no revision. It is suggested, however, that the subdivision of the Colorado Plateau in Utah needs to be redefined in the light of recent, detailed study of much of the region.
