Show ur D STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULT' FOREST SERVICE Ferron RD REPL Y TO: 7310 SUBJECT: Ferron Warehouse TO: Buildings March 15, 1979 Forest Supervisor A year ago at this time the Ferron Warehouse was being cO.nstructed. The footings and foundation were completed and then the excavations were backfilled but not compacted. A concrete slab was poured in the workshop portion of the warehouse. After it was poured it was noted that the material adjacent to the foundation was settling as much as ten inches. This was discussed at the time and as I recall the contractor was not responsible because the contract did not specify that the backfill be compacted. It now appears that the concrete floor is settling as much as two inches adjacent to the foundation. Apparently there is nothing we can do with this building now, but maybe something can be done to prevent this from happening in the future. If a floor is being poured in the warehouse that is being constructed at Stuart, the Forest Service should specify that all backfill around the foundation be compacted. |
