Show FEB J J 1936 ECI Pt..fI<.-: Ferron Ranger Station ~.~. Ogden, Utah Feb. 15. 1936 lLanti m!ORANDUlJ FOR FOREST SUPERVISOR: Reference is made to Mr. L. A. Conyers' letter of Feb. 5, a cop,y of which is at~ched for your information. We are answering insofar as possible in this letter the points raised and wish after you have reviewed them that you would see that they are broUGht to Mr. Conyers' attention. Relative to the changes involved by the elimination of the fireplace and the installation of a furnace at the Ferron Ranger Station, we wish to state that ~e are enclosing a plan which gives tne specifications for the furnace and its location and such data as is needed to handle the register and to show its exact placing in the front room. This location bas been worked out to compensate for all factors in heat transmission and has proved very satisfactory as an installation 10caUon. We have also sketched on a plan included herewith, the location for a. chimney which would serve both the k:i tcnen range B.Dd the furnace and which would not proj ect into the front room. The hot water tank could be put in the basement somewnere near the furnace and this would, of course, eliminate the ~pace required in the kitchen. You will note that the chimney suggested for this change requires only two flues, one for the kitcnen range, and one for the furnace. One of these could have a thimble for use in the living room as desired for a stove, but if you are going to install a furnace, we suggest that no openings be cut in tne living room for a stove. You could use the book case in the corner, or it could be eliminIJI'ne ated, as you desire; however, a tall book case on a room wall is not very pleasing. A You may reduce the present material list to cut aut ~ne fire orick and at least 300 common brick b~' making the c!1ange to the chimney in lieu of the fire place. In regard to the location of a coal bin in the basement under the breakfast alcove and that portion of the rear porch, we would say bat this would be sa.tisfactory to us; however, we would not wish you to go the extra expense of having tne finished section under the front porch, a8 well. |
