Bernadette Brown Please help us to welcome Bernadette Brown as our new Curator of Education. Bernadette will be joining the education staff beginning November 30th and you will have the opportunity to meet her at our Docent Christmas Luncheon, on December 10th. Bernadette's education and experience in museum education is extensive. She received her BA in anthropology and art history from Hunter College and her MA in anthropology with a certificate in Museum Studies from New York University. From 1964 to 1988 she was the Coordinator of Interns at the Brooklyn Museum. In addition to administering the intern program, Bernadette taught African, Oceanic, and survey of art history courses at New York City Community College. At the Museum of Native American Cultures in Spokane, Bernadette was the curator of Education from 1988 until it's closing in 1991. Her responsibilities included ecruiting, training and evaluating docents, as well as administering and developing the educational programs of the museum. Her work with the Native American community on cooperative programs is directly related to our goals of promoting diversity through museum education. Bernadette's recent position as Program Developer for the Cheney Cowles Museum was a continuation of the programs that she had developed at the Museum of Native American Cultures. We are very excited to have Bernadette as a new inember of our team and look forward to her contributions to the Museum. Another Addition to our Education Stam Please also help us to welcome Val Adams as·our afternoon work-study office assistant. Val has lived in the US for the past 25 years but is originally from Brazil. She is a student of art education here at the University and is trilingual, speaking Portuguese, Spanish and English. Val will be with us every fternoon to assist with telephones, Teacher esource Center pick-ups and research. Due to the timing of our spring exhibitions, _we will begin the spring SLC- tours in late January. This will spread the tours over a longer period and give us some breaks in between.
