Show .. j DOCENT WORKSHOPS: Team workshops were held October 8-11 and October 15-28, 1991. Workshops were conducted by Kaye Terry, Ann K. Stewart, and Betsy Quintana. Objectives were Elements of Art. In preparation for tours, docents prepared assignments for the Ceramic Exhibition and the Frost Collection. MIC docents presented their analysis of the objectives using "Memento Mori". A handbook, "The Magic of Art, How Artists use the Elements of Art" were distributed to Salt Lake City fourth grades. Team workshops were held January 14-17, 1992. Various art mediums were demonstrated by Kaye Terry, Ann K. Stewart, Betsy Quintana, and Vicky Kumpher. Objectives included explanations and illustrations of many art mediums including printmaking, weaving, oil, acrylic and watercolor painting, and identifying types of art in the galleries as landscape, portraits, still life, etc. A source book for use of all docents was shown with new material available for each personal file. A docent workshop was held May 5, 1992 regarding "Fabled Clothes of the Minankabau". A walk-through tour was held May 7, 1992, with a follow-up gallery talk by Chuck Loving held on May 24, 1992. SPECIAL COURSE: An elective Renaissance Art History for docents was organized by Kaye Terry to prepare docents for giving University level tours. Lectures were presented on nine Thursdays beginning October 10, 1992 at 1:00 p.m. Lecturers were Rob Terry, Sheila Muller, Aden Ross, Peter Goss, and Kaye Terry. DOCENT ACTIVITIES: A "raku party" was held on September 19, 1991, for all docents. Lynn Welch, docent and ceramist, organized the workshop. Members of the ceramics department presented demonstrations and 'hands on' process of glazes and a wood-fired process outdoors. Each docent glazed a small pot which she took home following the raku firing. Refreshments were planned by Vivian Taylor. A trip to Ogden for all docents on November 12, 1991, was planned by Gladys Bader assisted by the Ogden docents. A mini-tour of the Union Pacific Station was given, followed by a tour of the Eccles Community Art Center. A history of the Carriage House gift shop was given before the luncheon in the main room of the Art Center. Docents assisted at the preview sale of the book "Utah Art" at the Fabian and Clendenin downtown offices. This event was a fund raiser for the UMFA. On December 12, 1991 the annual docent Christmas party was given to celebrate the new acquisition of Mexican Christmas folk art. Dr. Floyd O'Neil was guest speaker. Special refreshments were prepared by Betsy Quintana and her mother assisted by Vivian Taylor, events chairperson. |
