Baroque Class Xeroxed Readings We will hold a class on the Baroque Period, 1600 - 1750, the Art, Literature and Music, in October and November of 1992. For those of you who have indicated you would like the xeroxed readings, they will be available in the Education office after June 15. EXHIBITION SCHEDULE, 1992 April 19-June 7, 1992 Museum Interns' Exhibitions May 10-June 21, 1992 Fabled Cloths of the Mlnangkabau: Gold and Sliver Weavlngs from the Highlands of West Sumatra May 17-June 28, 1992 On the Road: Selections from the Pennanent Collection of the San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art July 5 • September 20, 1992 The Palmer Collection of Utah Art July 12 • August 16, 1992 Utah 92: Photography "Have You Ever Seen A Rainbow at Night?" art works by Navajo children from the Montezuma Creek area will be the featured exhibition for tours next fall. In connection with the art exhibition Bruce Hucko, former teacher from that area who directed the project will present a workshop for us, November 2nd, in the Museum. Navajo arts and traditions will be the theme of the Museum's traditional party for Salt Lake City fourth grade students and Museum member families in December. In anticipation of this celebration of the Navajo the education office has purchased a number of ixx;ks on the topic available for you to borrow for your summer reading. Come into the office and take your choice! Books range from primary grade to adult reading level. One of the books is a good photographic documentation of Navajo life today; several feature the Navajo Creation Story. You may have good information on Navajo culture, arts, myths at home; ~d don:t overlook the Tony Hillerman mystenes which contain excellent descriptions of present day life and traditional ways of the Navajo. REFRESHER COURSE for FALL ~e Fall docent workshop, beginning October 13, will be a refresher course on docenting, something you won't want to miss. Kaye, Ann and Betsy came back from the National Art Educators' conference in Phoenix with some great ideas for working with children in the Museum which we hope to incorporate into the workshop. Please let us know if there are specific topics on docenting that you would like included in the fall workshop. |
