There will be demonstrations of Western American handicrafts, music, storytelling, a PBS video, Are There Still Real Cowboys?, and the decoration of the Museum Christmas tree. (We have heard that Santa Claus may put on his jeans to attend!) Admission for the party is a paper ornament cutout colored by your child to hang on the Museum tree. Please pick up the cut-out at the Museum anytime during the Masterpieces of the American West exhibit, which opens Octoberr 21st. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and everyone is urged to wear Western clothing. ,, DAVID CARROLL JOINS MUSEUM STAFF The Museum welcomes David Carroll as Museum Registrar. Before joining the Museum, David spent two years as a consultmg historian for historic preservation and historic archaeology projects. Prior to that he spent seven years with the Western Heritage Center in Billings, Montana as Curator of Exhibits and Collections. While there he curated numerous exhibits relating to the West including, Artist of the Western Myth, 1984 and The Yellowstone: Home, Thoroughfare and Battleground, 1985. David has a B.A. in History from the University of Wyoming and a M.A. in Museum Science and History from Texas Tech University. Active in professional development, David was recently elected Treasurer for the Utah Museum Association, and he has participated in numerous workshops and symposia relating to collections management, conservation and proposal writing. David is interested in providing the highest standards of care and documentation for Museum objects. His current projects include an upgrade of the Museum's computerized collections management program and the preparation of a longterm conservation plan for the Museum. David's wife, Martha, is a Critical Care R.N. with LOS Hospital and they have a 3 1/2 year old son, Owen. At our June 1990 teacher workshop artist Bri Matheson and teachers created a sculpture in the courtyard of the Utah Museum of Fine Arts. The Museum Education Department offers teacher workshops throughout the year.
