Q Were the other men that you observed who you had a personal knowledge of, working in the canyon at other bars, at places where they could be reached from the road? A No; either be going down the river, or else down one or another of these trails to work in the canyon. Q What I mean is, their camps were accessible from trails leading to the road, were they? A Yes. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q In the years of 1893 and 1894 when you were there, how many miners were there prospecting or working their claims up and down that river? A A good many. There must have been one hundred or one hundred and fifty in that year, because the discoveries we made in the canyon created quite an excitement. Q When did you make those discoveries? A I made them in the fall of 1893. Q And you were the original discoverer? |
