Show 5459 Mendenhall- D 3469 Q Did you encounter any difficulty with sandbars in that country? A We didn't to speak of; we may have had a little trouble in what we called the Clay Hill valley; after the river was out of the canyon it goes into a wide channel through that country, and the water spreads out very much; there is no sand to speak of in the canyon. The river is to swift it keeps it pretty well washed out in there. I don't recall now, -- we were prospecting, and we would go to the shore whenever we saw a place we would like to examine, and sometimes we would be bothered in getting to the shore, and have to elect our place to land, and just how we got along through there is sort of a vague recollection to me. But we managed to get along. Q How far down the river did you go? A Altogether? Q Yes. A We went to the mouth. Q Clear to the mouth? A Yes, subsequently. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: |
