A I don't know; some people we met afterwards told us they had got them; that's all I know about them. Q where did your party go from there in the boats? A I went out to Escalante to look for a base of sup-plies on the west side of the river. While I was gone, the rest of the party, the six, started up the river with boats, and this was about the holidays, and I was so late getting around that they concluded I was lost, and they had gone up the river to try to get to the California bar, of which they had heard from a river man by the name of Meskin. Q How did you get over to Escalante? A On foot. Q Did you get some supplies at Escalante?
