Show 5501 Mandenhall- 3511 FURTHER EXAMINATION BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q How do these sand waves compare in size with the waves which you would encounter in going through what you call a bad rapid? A Well, they are quite different; they are regular. Q How do they compare in size? A They are not as high. The waves in the bad rapids vary very much; some of them rise up to heights of probably ten or twelve feet. Q An ordinary bad rapid. A An ordinary rapid, they are about similar in size. Q What do you mean by saying they are more regular? A They just run in succession of waves, right on down the main current of the stream until they get to the lower end from where they start. Q Like a succession of waves in the ocean? A Very much, yes, just like a succession of waves in a considerable body of water that the wind is blowing, run regu-lar until they start to break; they generally start to break about the center, because that is where the waves get the |
