A No, I don't remember that; the Indians forded there a great deal in going back and forth from their camps to Bluff. Q On foot, or on horseback? A Horseback. Q Did you observe whether or not it was necessary for them to swim their horses at that point? A No, I don't think there was any time they swam their horses. Of course, we didn't notice that in particular. Q Just tell me the progress of this boat and raft down through. A Well, I hadn't had much experience in boating then, on anything but lakes; Mr. Savage was an old raftsman; he offered to take the raft down if I would handle the boat. Had our camp outfit and tools in the boat, and on the way down, the raft ran on a submerged rock, a rock that was submerged from the upper side, but could be seen from the lower side, below the rock, and it became fastened so solidly there we had to tear |
