BLACKMAR: Q When you were on the San Juan in 1893, 1894, and 1895, did you ever observe these sand waves? then, as long as we were there, whenever we were on the San Juan, we would always note particularly the sand- wavy condition of that stream; it was a significant feature of the stream. Q During those two years what was the greatest height you ever saw those sand waves attain? would rise more than three feet; they might, though, have gone up to four feet. Q Have you seen similar waves on the Colorado? A Yes, but not near as pronounced. Q Above or below the mouth of the San Juan? A They were far the most numerous below the mouth of the San Juan. Q What has been your experience with reference to whether these waves break down or up stream? A My recollection and judgment is they break both ways |
