A yes, a thousand or more of times; every time there is a measurement made there is taken a cross- section of the river. Q Now, in order to find out your depth, did you strike some sort of an average or composite figure of those various cross- sections? A Yes, that is what this is ( indicating plate). Q So that if, on a given day, say, you had a depth, according to your calculation, of so much, it might well have been that on that particular day, if it were, say, an excess-ive depth, there might have been some decided filling in of sand at certain places that might be responsible for the ex-cessive depth on that day. Or, on the other hand, there might have been a very severe scouring of the river. So that the variations as you shoe it on your picture may not have actual-ly existed on the Grand River on any particular date?
