Show 6135 577 Hoyt- D 4135 stage of water, say, at this particular place, of 18 feet: You ask what the velocity is when the water is 18 feet on the gage. The Special Master. Yes. The witness. That depends upon how much cross- sectional area you have. As shown here ( indicating) you can come out with one area in the same stage of water, at a velocity of five miles an hour, and at another point at the same stage of water have a velocity of nearly seven miles an hour. And further down, at stage 11 feet, as shown by the measurements, although the water was at the same stage, we had a velocity although the water was at the same stage, we had a velocity of 3 ½ miles an hour for one measurement, and nearly five miles an hour for another measurement, due to the fact that it had scoured out. By The Special Master: Q Now, I ask what causes that -- if you have the water at the same stage, what causes the extra velocity? I am ask-ing you to state it in untechnical language. There is more water? A There is more water. The total amount of water |
