PAINE, a witness heretofore called by and on behalf of the Complain-ant, and duly sworn, was recalled to the stand and was exam-ined and testified as follows: CROSS EXAMINATION ( Resumed.) By Mr. Farnsworth: Q Mr. Paine, this morning I asked you to bring cer-tain earlier manuals that were in use and followed by the Department in the survey of public lands, and in response to my request you have brough four volumes, which purport to be for the year 1881, 1890, 1894, and 1902. A Yes, I recognize them as such. Q The manual bearing date of 1881 is the manual that was in force up until 1890, is it not? A Yes, from the date of its issuance. Q Yes, the first, -- was there any earlier manual than that one of 1881? A Yes, there was a manual of 1855. |
