Show M usic Council A, ,LL musical activities of the University of Utah are under the direction of the Music Council, which is concerned with overseeing the financial affairs and appearances of all the organizations of the Music Society and is responsible for the high quality of the musical programs presented by the glee clubs, band, orchestra, and smaller ensembles of the University. Clarence J. Hawkins, serving as chairman of the Music Council, has been assisted by Thomas Giles and William Peterson of the faculty, and Florence Thody, Reed Stout, and Florence Derrick, student representatives. Reed Stout, as student music manager, has directed the affairs of the musical organization and carried on the more detailed work of the council. Giles, Peterson Hawkins, Derrick Thody, Stout The efforts of the Music Council sent the band to Los Angeles in the fall and featured that organization in assemblies and rallies, and at all athletic contests, and concerts. The Men's Glee Club has presented an unusually large number of performances, featured its own assembly, a football rally at a downtown theater, and made several appearances with the orchestra. The Ladies' Glee Club and Ladies' Double Quartet also presented an assembly and performed before the various churches and civic bodies of this city. Musical background was furnished by the orchestra for all dramatic performances, assemblies and the Commencement Exercises. The String Quartet performed at school functions and affairs throughout the city. Reed Stout, Manager Page 151 |
