Show \\ UTONIAN ... 1934 \ \ k Parkinson, Owen Hendrickson, Richards Ross Varsity Debate H Laving completed its second year of uninterrupted victorious debating, the University of Utah varsity debate squad may justifiably be given credit for exceptional industry and ability. The squad, coached by Laverne Bane, included Ted Moss, Jay Parkinson, Ray Owen, Hyrum Hendrickson, Rhead Richards, Grant Webb, Jay Broad-bent, Dale Adair, Avron Sandack, Earl Ross and Joseph Fratto. Under Coach Bane, able director, Ted Moss, Ray Owen and Jay Parkinson commenced the 1933 debate season with a trip to Southern California during the Christmas vacation. Decisions were awarded the Utah team over University of California at Los Angeles, Loyola University, the California Institute of Technology and Occidental College. In addition the team participated in non-decision debates with the Uiversity of Southern California and Redlands University. Later Hyrum Hendrickson and Rhead Richards travelled to Colorado and Wyoming for debates with Boulder, Denver University, and the University of Wyoming. The last trip of the season was made to Laramie, Wyoming in May, where Ray Owen and Rhead Richards participated in the Rocky Mountain Debate Tournament and Earl Ross in the Rocky Mountain Oratorical contest.
