Friday . . 37 27 Saturday . 39 29 A T fever pitch the tied rival college leaders responded to the starter's whistle in the crucial series in the Deseret Gymnasium on Friday, February 17. In the first game, three fast baskets by Romney and 15 counters by Millet, accounted for half the Cougars final 43. Brooks and Kinner lost many chances to score through being overeager, but still counted 30 of Utah's 42 points. As the score indicates, 43-42, this game was a thriller. A more determined and calmer Ute crew took the floor in the final series' game, and after a fast and thrilling game subdued the Cougars, 50-36. Adding individual points of 15, 13, 13, and 8 by Brooks, Watts, Kinner, and Lund, respectively, helped the Utes romp home ahead, 50-36, and enter into a tie for the league leadership. Apparently at peak form the utes travelled to Bozeman for Montana's scalp while the Cougars entertained the Farmers. Both the "U" and "Y" had their hearts set on a double killing. Sparkling ball rustling and intercepting by Grant Bennion gave the Utes the sphere often enough in the opening series' encounter to carry them to a 37-27 triumph. In the second tiff Montana weakened from the time the count was 14-all, and Taft Watts' final eague game found him bombarding the hoop for seven baskets and a foul for high point honors. Brooks' 9 points and Lund's 8 gave the Utes their third M. S. C. scalp of the season by a 39-29 count. BENNION Guard U. of U. At Salt Lake U. of U. At Bozeman VS» VS. B. Y. U February 17-18 M. S. C.
