Show -9- Sec. 34, T. 5 S., R. 24 Ev a canal, known as lateral "F" is taken out of the main canal to serve lands in the easterly part of the "Blythe Rancho". This canal is 16 feet wide on the bottom, has side slopes of two to one, a water depth of 7 feet and a grade of one foot to the mile. At the N. E. corner of Sec. 5, T. 6 S., R. 23 E., a canal known as lateral "R" is taken out of the main canal to serve the northwestern part of the valley. It is 25 feet wide on the bottom, has side slopes of 2 to 1 and a water depth of 7 feet. The headgates and other structures of the system have all been built after the most approved practice with a view to permanency and future growth. The surplus water in the canals is taken care of by spillways into sloughs which drain back into the river. The system has a carrying capacity of approximately 700 second feet and without considering the levee system has cost for construction about $482,000.00 and will cost to complete as planned $204,-000.00 more. Company's Water Right. Title to the water right was acquired by appropriation in accordance with the laws of the State of California, a filing having been made by one G. W. Petit on September 14, 1908, for his own and the company's benefit, for 200,000 miner's inches or 5,000 second feet of the waters of the Colorado River for irrigation purposes on lands of the Palo Verde Valley, to be diverted near the south line of Sec. 18, T. 5 S., R. 24 E., S. B. M.1 All of the interests of G. W. Petit in said filing were assigned to the company, and since the filing the system has been perfected and at the time of investigation was delivering xCalif. Ex.
