In reply to your letter of October 21, 1914 ("G" 150406 GWH), transmitting report of Mineral Examiner R. G. Mead and certain other papers relative to the Palo Verde Mutual Water Company: The following information relative to this company's project is obtained from Mr. Mead's report: The project is located in the Palo Verde Valley in Riverside and Imperial counties, California. Area to be irrigated ............................ 90,000 acres. Area under constructed ditches ........ 60,000 " Area irrigated or farmed, 1914 ........ 25,000 " Source of water supply, Colorado River. Water rights.-The Palo Verde Mutual Water Company has purchased the water rights and ditch system of the Palo Verde Land and Water Company, which water company has been maintaining and operating an irrigation system to supply water to the patented lands under the Blythe Rancho, embracing 25,000 acres. The water filings made in behalf of the owners of the Blythe Rancho date back in the eighties. In addition to these rights, the Palo Verde Mutual Water Company owns the rights obtained by G. W. Petit under his notice of appropriation of 5,000 second-feet of the flow of Colorado River posted in conformity with the laws of California September 14, 1908. |
