Show -5- [pp. 28-29] The irrigation system operated by the Palo Verde Mutual Water Company is shown in detail on plan marked Exhibit "K"1 and consists of an intake from the Colorado River, made in solid rock, sixteen feet wide in the clear by fifteen feet deep. This intake is situate at a bend in the river in the NW1/4NE1/4, Sec. 19, T. 5 S., R. 24 E., at which place the river makes a sharp bend against a narrow rocky point; thus forming a most desirable means of diverting the water from the river into the canal system. Owing to the fact that the intake is made from cutting through a point of solid rock, there is no liklihood [sic] of any damage being done to it by flood waters. The irrigation system consists of a main canal five and one-half miles long, the greater portion of which is thirty feet wide on the bottom, having side slopes of two to one and a water depth of seven feet, with a grade of twelve inches to the mile. Near the northeast corner of Sec. 34, a canal known as lateral "F" is taken out of the main canal to serve lands on the easterly part of the "Blythe Rancho". This Canal is sixteen feet wide on the bottom, the side slopes are two to one, water depth seven feet, and the grade is twelve inches to the mile. At the northeast corner of Sec. 5, T. 6 S., R. 23 E., a lateral known as lateral "E" is taken out of the main canal. It is twenty-five feet wide on the bottom, has side slopes of two to one and a water depth of seven feet. This canal serves the northwestern part of the valley. xNo copy of Exhibit "K" can be located by the Bureau of Land Management. |
