I shall make every effort to continue the progress that my predecessors have made. Bob Zeigler, Secretary, and Craig Bennion, Treasurer and I will be replacing former officers who were extremely capable and experienced in the field of administration. Enclosed are the minutes of our recent general meeting and board meetings, in which you will find names of board members and Committee chairmen of the association. Any of them, as well as myself, will be pleased to discuss association business with you at any reasonable time. Our Association is a growing one, and with increase in membership there is also an expected increase in problems. If we will all work together, the advantages of a larger membership will far overbalance any problems. Keep in mind always that our main concern is the skiing (and about to ski) public. As certified instructors, we know our standards and capabilities, let's not waste too much time telling one another about them. Instead, let's let the skiing public in on our secrets at every available opportunity. Sincerely, ~ Lou Lorenz, Presid nt Intermountain Ski Instructors Association June 11, 1965 TO: All Members of ISlA FROM: Bob Zeigler, Secretary SUBJECT: Spring Clinic Minutes Please find enclosed the minutes from the Spring Clinic meetings. During the transfer of the secretarial job, I assure you there was some loss in accuracy of the minutes. I ask you to read them carefully and send any additions or corrections to me. Thanks goes to Judy West for recording the meetings in shorthand -- it was a great help. I must say IIhats off II to my predecessor, Lloyd Frank, who has devoted untold hours to the duties of this office. Thank you from myself and I feel free to say from everyone else in ISlA. One of my first projects for the year will be to issue the By-laws in a small booklet form and include, certification policy, clinic and dues requirements, etc. This will be given to new members as soon as possible. I would like to hear some opinions on how valuable a quarterly or monthly newsletter would be. Maybe this is where we could transmit the latest scoop on technique, certification, ski school developments, etc. Keep in mind we aren1t the richest organization in the world. Those of you who have ideas on how this office can better serve you, don't be grumpy and keep it to yourselves, but drop me a line. Also, please keep me informed of your current address! CERTIFIED SKI TEACHER INTIRMOUNTAIN SKI ASSOCIATION INTERMOUNTAIN SKI INSTRUCTORS ASSOCIATION 2010 West North Temple Salt Lake City, Utah 84116 November 8, 1965 TO: All Instructor Division Presidents and Chief Examiners FROM: Lou Lorenz, President, I. S. I. A. SUBJECT: I.S.I.A. Examiner's Clinic In order to bring .about a better understanding of requirements and standards of certification examinations, the ISlA certification committee has planned a fall examiners clinic this year. Refer to the enclosed announcement and agenda for full particulars. If any division president and/or chief examiner feels that they could benefit their certification program by attending this clinic, ISIA would be happy to have them attend as their guests. Unfortunately, ISIA will not be able to pay any travel or expenses to other division personnel. It is felt that this would be an excellent opportunity for informal discussion of many of .the common problems concerning certification in all divisions. Your presence and comments should certainly be of mutuaL benefit to all. Since Intermountain is somewhat centrally located, at least in the west, and easily reached by.air transportation, we hope that you who .are within reasonable geographical distance will accept this invitation. ijope to see you November 20 and 21. Temple Salt Lake City, Utah Dear Lou: December 27, 1965 Would like to take this means to express my sincere appreciation for all of your hospitality during my stay in Salt Lake City and Park City. It was an interesting experience for me to watch you and your troopers in action and \·las interested in the similar parallel of divisional problems. It was my observation that the clinic you put together was most beneficial to all those in attendance. Continued effort in this direction should go a loug way toward upgrading professional ski instructors in our country. Further, I felt the opportunity to discuss common problems with you was most beneficial and something \.e tvhould continue whenever possible. In this regard I am going to request permission from our Board of Directors to consider the feasibility of inviting you do\vu to our convention in some capacity so that we may continue this exchange of ideas. Again, thanks a million for the opportunity to observe your clinic, for taking the time to transport me to necessary destinations and for the very warm hospitality shown me during my stay.
