See, being treated as prisoners of war, they were not allowed to work in any way, so they were idle. Their time was idle. Sothey made little golf courses and people were requesitng golf clubs to practice golf. Of course, personal items. In Bismark, North Dakota, the first thing they did, the businessmen from San Francisco Bay area got together and formed a canteen co-op immediately - and they had the an enterprising store going on in a little restaurant for instance. They used to serve breakfast and people would love to go to the canteen to have their breakfst, you know, of ham and eggs. LK In Bismark. GO Yes. LK That's incredible. GO Andhe said, after all, all thebusiness talent was up there so they . . [laughsl , k knew how to carry on a veryporf~table bus~enss. ~o I don t now how or what kind of contacts they made.
