Show Grace Oshita 2-20-85 s5:25 attended for public school. GO Yes, for the elementary school. L How far away was that from where you lived. GO Walking distance. It was only - Theywere the short blocks - we were on Bush-- ... about five blocks away. 4-5. L From whereyoulived. GO Yes. L Did you wear a uniform to school. GO Oh no this was public school L Just regular dress. What - Youstarted school and you couldn't speak English? GOQNot too well, no. I don'tthink I have -- I think kids just learn. And when you're younger, you learn the language must faster. I don't think there's a problem. L How do youremember school. What was it like for you? GO Oh, it was very enjoyable. I loved it. And I think teachers enjoyed the Japanese students in the school. L Hoe come. GO I don't know. Maybe they're easier to handle. I don't know. Although, all your parents really were immigrants. B ut maybe becuase they were, the second generation children were obedient. More obedient . And yet, when I look back, the Italin children, the Jewish children, the black students, who were in our class, ah, well, except for Blacks, prbably were children of immigrants too. You know, in that area. |
