And, once a few persons found a shell, it became a popular pastime for people to go out and pick up with the shells in it buckets full of sand/and come home and wash it, clean it, bleach it, arrange it into shell jewelry or a cov.ered boxes or - anyway, shellcraft became very popular in Topaz. And whenfue segreagation started andethepople from Tooley Lake came, they had another kind of shell, that they would exchange with~ople of Topaz. Andit added to different looking jewelry again. LK Taling about the oldman who was shot and killed ••.. GO Well, I don'tknow what he was doingthere. I - and I don't even know what time of day it was, but the MP claims that he didn't heed to his warningand so he shot him. But, apparently, he wasn't running away becuase he wasn't shot from the back. Whether he was hard of hearing or not, Idon't know. I ghought he was a very oldman, but ac-cording to what I read, he was only in his 60s. And I don't think bat's oldbecuase I'm 70 already. You know, But. Ah, whether he had a hearing problem or not, I don't know. hecould have. People in their 60s do. LK What effect did the incident have on you at the time. GO Oh, -We didn't live along the fence. Infact, I don't eh~nk i'd ever walked along the fence. Our block was 2 blocks inside the fence. Allfue way around. From where w.e lived, so actually, the mly time I'd seen the fence is when we went out the front gate. Oh, iguess when I worked infue lementary school,that was long, next to the fence.
