F.A. unit, came to the University in 1929 and was assigned to this post for a period of four years. However, he asked for an extension of one year in 1933 and had it granted. This year he was granted another extension of one year. Any person with so much interest in the university unit cannot help but be looked up to and for this reason he is literally loved by all cadets under him.ARMY OFFICERSâ- The University of Utah R.O.T.C. unit has the distinct honor for the year 1933-34, according to Lieutenant Colonel William Geary, Ninth Corps Area Inspector, of being the most outstanding unit to perform at the university for the past three years. The regular officers have shown the utmost interest this year and are to be congratulated for their success. The University of Utah, Leland Stanford University, and Oregon State College comprise the Ninth Corps Area. â- Each year there seems to be a greater interest shown in R.O.T.C. work, thus causing keener competition between students who are to become cadet officers during their upper classmen years and, after successfully completing the course will receive commissions as Second Lieutenants in the Organized Reserve Corps of Field Artillery. â- Lieutenant Colonel Geary also made known that the University department of Military Science and Tactics, under the personal direction of Major James A. Gillespie, is the outstanding unit in the Ninth Corps Area and is one of the highest ranked units in this nation. The remainder of the Reserve Officers are the Assistant Professors Captain Melvin L. Craig, senior instructor and pistol coach; Lieutenant Charles H. Swartz, adjutant and junior instructor; Lieutenant Karl Hisgen, sophomore instructor; and Captain Russell C. Snyder, freshman instructor and polo coach.Swartz, Craig. Gillespie, Snyder, Kundrick. CadellTwo Hundred Fifty |
