Show TENNISâ- The University of Utah tennis team under the able direction of Coach Theron S. Parmelee clinched its sixth consecutive western division championship by swamping the Brigham Young University and the Utah State Agricultural College in four dual meets. So decisive were its victories that it has gone through the entire season with the loss of but one match out of twenty playedâ€"a remarkable achievement for Coach Parmelee and his racquet wielders. â- The squad this year was composed of Captain Ross Sutton, Grant Evans, Dan Freed, Jimmy Wilding, Bud Bennion, Holman Waters, Fred Glade, Marvin Alter, Rex Skidmore, Virgil James, Herald Carlston, and Louis Banker. â- Perhaps the hardest tussle of the season was the Redskin's first victory over the Brigham Young University. The Utes managed to eke out wins in all five matches but not before they were all forced to the limit. It was Ross Sutton, 17-year-old Ute Freshman, who began amazing net cohorts by defeating Captain Dave Freed of the varsity squad in the annual campus championship tourney. â- Having won innumerable fast friends, five official letters, a "rep" on the coast, much competitive polish and respect Ross is captaining the '34 squad to Utah's fifth straight divisional gonfalon in convincing fashion. |
