Show 1 T-MNIAN fJUNIOR PROMWEDWARD McGEAN Chairmanâ- Rivalling the brilliance of the most elaborate of former proms, the 1935 Junior Promenade was held in the Union Building on the evening of Friday, February 23rd. â- The event formed a gala climax to the long-awaited "Prom Week," which featured the revival of open house by the social organizations on the campus. Social interest during the week was heightened by a clever "mock prom" sponsored by the A.S.U.U. Dance committee. >A new and ultra-modernistic decoration scheme evolved by the Prom Committee under the chairmanship of Edward McGean proved a genuine surprise to the six hundred couples who attended the function. Unique lampshades, frescoes, and silhouettes in the colors of green, black, and silver added atmosphereof smartness to the ballroom. â- Dancing was enjoyed both in the main ballroom and in the Little Theatre, with two orchestras providing music harmonious with the gaiety of the affair. Decorations in the Little Theatre were appropriate to the Greek Room idea, the walls being hung with beautifully gilded crests of the fraternities and sororities. â- During the evening, dinner was served in the cafeteria. The favors were smart bracelets in black and silver, with the University Seal superimposed. â- The unpleasant weather of the prom night was overcome by the foresight and resourcefulness of the committee. A long canopy was erected extending from the front portals of the Union Building down to the curb.m'&&X-:iTwo Hundred Twenty-six |
