Show Utah Registers a First and SecondUTAH vs. B.Y.U.UTE STADIUM May 4, 1935Although Utah captured nine first places and smashed two state records, the "Y" state and conference defending champ, showed too much strength to be upset and romped off with a 76|/2 to 63'/2 victory.Utah, entering the meet as the under-dog, showed more power than was expected. Knewell Rushforth started the meet at a fast pace by breaking the state high jump record with a leap of 6 feet 37/8 inches. "Snatch" also scored 4 points from the broad jump and the hurdles.Jack Thornley, Ute Sophomore spear tosser, sent his own state record of I 93.4 feet into the discard with a mighty heave of 206.7 feet. Maurice Williams proved his worth by capturing 10 points in the sprints and ending the day as high-point man. Aldo Nichols gave the major surprise of the meet by defeating Dudley of the "Y" in the 440.Verl Wilde and Karl Schleckman won first place honor and their numerals in the pole vault and the hammer throw.FRANK DAUGHTERSThis outstanding two year 880 yard man was unable to remain with the squad this year due to illness. Frank has two more years of competition for the Crimson.BOYD McKEANBoyd specializes at the discus and shot. He captured first place ribbons in these events at the "Y" freshman meet, and is a consistent point winner.HARRY ALLENHarry ran his last collegiate race in the conference fiesta.
