His sound judgment and leadership have gained for him the friendship and confidence of all Crimson track enthusiasts. Despite his heavy weight, which is over one hundred seventy-five pounds, his graceful body action and perfect muscle coordination have made him one of the outstanding sprint men in the conference. "Porky's" sweater as a result of this year's participation will don its fourth honor stripe.Resume of Varsity Track SeasonIn order to be a strong contender for the state meet and in preparation of a drive to regain the conference championship, Coach Ike Armstrong began his men training early in the season.Utah track enthusiasts were fortunate in having both the state and conference meets on their home field. Although rated as the underdog at the first of the season, Utah showed so much fight and ability that it was on an equal par with any squad in the conference before the big battle.Each man on the squad put forth his best efforts to make the squad a winning team, but nevertheless only a few of the men were really responsible for the ultimate success. Captain Howard Green-well set a good example for the members of the team by being a consistent point winner in every meet. Knewell Rushforth proved himself most valuable. "Snatch" won as many as eighteen points in one meet and broke the state high jump record twice. Jack Thornley, sophomore spear tosser, lived up to all expectations; he heaved the stick 206.7 feet to smash the state record and to throw over the conference mark by ten feet.
