Show iB ATHLETICSArmstrong's ability for winners does not stop at football alone. Six state and three conference track championships, and proven superiority over all colleges in the Rockies, if results of five years can be considered a criterion, are further credits to his masterful ability. The tremendous task of guiding of two of three major sports is a tedious job, but Armstrong performs these functions as well as numerous others with astute direction.Augmenting the coaching staff are Vadal Peterson, Sherman "Pete" Couch, Charles Welch, and Theron Parmelee. This impressive list of leaders easily secures Utah a position as one of the outstanding western leaders of Athletic training.Peterson serves as football scout, basketball coach, and assistant in track. His diligent, earnest year-round efforts and co-operative attitude toward the Armstrong principles have resulted in his success."Pete" Couch, as dusty pages of the archives have recorded, was one of Utah's most outstanding athletes of past years. His duties as third principal of the staff, are to direct freshman football as well as varsity wrestling, and to aid in basketball and track. The Crimson's swimming and tennis teams are the perennial superiors of intermountain rivals. Much of their success is due to Charley Welch and Theron Parmelee. "Parm," although beset with numerous campus activities, finds time to impart his invaluable knowledge to an impressive array of netters.Much is expected from the continuation of the strong Armstrong-Couch-Peterson trio. With greater patronage of students, athletes, and townspeople, the power of the intrepid Redskin is expected to rise to still greater heights in the years to follow.Varsity CoachesPeterson Armstrong CouchTwo Hundred Forty-seven |
